Basketball signups begin at intramurals

By Bob Grant

Signups for the NIU intramural five-on-five basketball tournament begin at 2 p.m. today at the Office of Campus Recreation lobby.

There are spots for 50 teams – at $35 per team – in the double elimination tournament that begins Nov. 15.

“This isn’t the regular basketball intramurals,” said NIU Director of Sports Clubs and Intramurals Galen Mahle. “This tournament is to get people back into the basketball frame of mind, as intramural basketball will begin after Christmas break.”

Because the Rec Center closes at 6 p.m. today for the NIU football game, signups will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. instead of the originally planned 2 to 8 p.m.

Signups will resume from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday or until all 50 spots are filled.

Each team must have at least four players and can have as many as 10.

Flag football championship

NIU intramural flag football will decide its champions beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Huskie Stadium.

Two of the five division championship games have been set. The D-town Damage will take on NIU Law at 6:30 p.m. in the independent competitive league, while the Shooters will play the Blumpkins at 9:30 p.m. for the independent highly competitive championship.

For the Greek divisions, the highly competitive championship will take place at 6:30 p.m. followed by the competitive championship at 7:30 p.m.

The co-rec division will decide its champion at 8:30 p.m.

These three divisions will play their semifinal games Wednesday at Huskie Stadium.
