NIU music professor William Goldenberg will present his Presidential Teaching Professor Seminar, “The Playful Touch: Developing the Whole Human Being Harmoniously in Community” at noon today in the Holmes Student Center’s Capitol Room.

Goldenberg, who began studying the piano and music theory at age 6, has traveled around the world performing concerts and giving music seminars.

He started teaching music at NIU in 1980.

“I’ve known him ever since I arrived here in 1986, before I was the director of music. I’ve known him as a very supportive colleague,” said Paul Bauer, director of the School of Music. “I’d be surprised if he put in less than 80 hours of work in a week. He is very dedicated to his students.”

Goldenberg is highly regarded internationally and is a terrific advocate for the school of music at NIU, Bauer said.

Students attending today’s seminar may discover how music can tap and nurture human potential, Goldenberg said in a press release.

Goldenberg will lecture and answer questions for 30 minutes before performing a short Beethoven sonata on the piano.

Bauer said Goldenberg ranks near the top every year in student evaluations.

The seminar is open to all, with refreshments being served at 11:30 a.m.
