Bush doesn’t protect Americans equally
November 5, 2004
This is in response to a letter written by Jen Tulicki about Willie Mickell’s column. I want to know what planet she lives on. She said Mickell’s logic is flawed because Bush has worked hard to protect all Americans equally.
That is so far from the truth that it shows Tulicki’s ignorance and lack of knowledge. After James Byrd was brutally murdered in Texas in 1998, Matthew Shepard was murdered as well. The Byrd family, along with government officials, drafted a bill on hate crimes that would have prevented things such as these happening again. When the bill came across Bush’s desk as governor, he would not sign it into law because sexual orientation was included on the bill. This shows that Bush does not care about the protection of the LGBT community. The Byrd family, God bless them, refused to take sexual orientation off the bill because they realize what equality and protection means.
Thanks to Bush, hate crimes are not taken seriously in Texas and all over the country. Furthermore, Tulicki implied that because Barack Obama was elected, it showed how America supported African-Americans. Did she know that the man running against Obama was black, too? How does this show support for African-Americans? There was no choice.
Tulicki, you have no idea what is going in this country. Read the paper sometime.
