A single vehicle crash east of DeKalb killed a DeKalb man Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at 6:30 a.m. Domingo Garcia, 23, of 1103 Pleasant St., died at 8:36 a.m. at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 626 Bethany Road, from injuries sustained in the crash.

Garcia was traveling eastbound on Barber Greene Road, east of Somonauk Road, when he attempted to pass a semi-tractor trailer, said DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott.

Garcia completed passing the semi and pulled back into the eastbound lane where he went off onto the shoulder. He overcorrected and struck a utility pole on the north side of the roadway, Scott said.

The sheriff’s office has no plans to file charges in the accident and said that the accident didn’t involve drugs or alcohol.

The death remains under investigation at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office.
