Columnist puts words of peace in mouths of killers
October 13, 2004
After reading Rasmieyh Abdelnabi’s column Wednesday morning, I was genuinely shocked to see that she’d made the statement saying: “the Palestinians want peace.” My shock came because this was definitely not in accord with the charter of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, which states in Article Nine: “Armed struggle is the only way to liberate Palestine.” How that can be a peaceful action is beyond me.
It is also impossible for me to grasp how the Palestinians want peace, when in Article 15, the charter calls for the “liquidation” of Israel and its people. I also am at a loss when it says in Article 21 that the Palestinians will “reject all solutions which are substitutes” for taking all of Israel, backing up their words by saying in Article 28 that they will “reject all forms of intervention, trusteeship and subordination.” Sounds just a little belligerent, if you ask me.
Finally, I find it hard to see how the Palestinians want peace when Yasser Arafat, head of the PLO, signed the ridiculous document in his own blood.
