Respect the men and women fighting the war

I wanted to thank the Northern Star for printing The Associated Press article on Jack Hennessy. War is hard to understand and difficult to deal with, particularly when one loses someone so close to home. Jack was in the same high school and class as me; he was personable, friendly and always could cheer up his classmates.

However, I do not want to focus on his loss. He was a great person who knowingly accepted the call of war and died for social progression; he had a lot going for him and still decided to serve the need for freedom. People like him need to be remembered and cherished and not used to inspire hate for political decisions. Jack should be remembered as courageous and determined – and not as a victim.

I know not everyone agrees with this war, but please find it in your hearts to thank the people who die for this country. He did what he felt was best for everyone including himself ; not all of us can say the same. Please, in remembrance of all who die in service, respect your troops and others in the armed forces. If you must, hate the president, but do not hate those who willingly risk their lives. They live and die with honor.
