Sale to benefit children

ATTENTION, garage sale junkies—the DeKalb Interfaith Network for Peace and Justice will be holding its annual garage sale soon.

The Network will hold the charity event Aug. 19-21 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 N. First St., in DeKalb.

The garage sale is held each year to raise money for the poverty-stricken children of a barrio in Managua, Nicaragua. This year, the lives of 110 Nicaraguan children will be touched by the event.

The proceeds of the sale will help support medical aid projects and a nutritious lunch program for a pre-school in the economically deprived country.

Event co-coordinator Anna Fisher said, “All proceeds go directly to educational and medical aid programs in Nicaragua.”

The Interfaith Network is accepting donations of merchandise which can be sold at the garage sale.

“In order for the sale to be a success, we need lots of donations of quality things to sell—housewares, jewelry, furniture, bikes, children’s toys, lawn mowers, electrical appliances, TVs and anything else in good condition except clothing,” Fisher said. “You’ll be helping us save lives.”

Zee DuBois, co-coordinator for the event, said the Network also needs help setting up the event.

“If there are any muscle people out there, we could really use their help in moving merchandise,” she said. “If there is a fraternity or a sorority willing to give us some help, that would be great.”
