Bus turnaround leaves students out in the cold
September 6, 2004
The design of the bus turnaround is a disaster. Instead of having the buses stop at the front door of DuSable Hall – the busiest classroom building on campus – students now have to walk a block each way along “lovely” curving walkways. There is no direct sidewalk between DuSable and the bus stop. The extra walk is making them late for their classes in DuSable, and it’s making them late for their connections to classes in other buildings when they leave DuSable. Instead of letting them wait inside, avoiding the heat in summer, the rain all year and the snow and ice in winter, now they have to stand out in all weather, perhaps huddling in the three little “shelters” except, of course, for the, what is it, four unsheltered seats?
I can understand the desire to stop private automobiles from blocking the door there. What I can’t understand is why so many students have to be inconvenienced in the process. I certainly can’t understand why they’ll be forced to walk those extra blocks when it gets cold and icy in the winter.
