Sorority to crown hot male on campus

NIU’s smoothest man will be determined tonight at Gamma Phi Omega’s second annual Mr. Papi Chulo contest.

The English translation for papi chulo is a hot male, said Monique Gomez, cultural awareness chair for Gamma Phi Omega. Gomez stressed the contest is not strictly for Latino men.

“Many different cultures will be expressed at this event,” she said.

There will be nine contestants for Mr. Papi Chulo.

The event will begin with a PowerPoint presentation featuring baby pictures of the contestants, she said. The contestants then will model casual, sleep and formal wear. The contestants also will be asked and judged on a series of questions. There will be a talent portion of the contest as well, Gomez said.

The winner will be required to attend and speak at various events on campus, Gomez said. He also will need to show involvement in campus activities, she said.

Because of the number of contestants, Gomez said the contest will start promptly at 7 p.m.

She said the event will be very entertaining.

“I hope many students will come because it will be fun,” she said. “The contestants have many talents, and they have so much to offer.”
