Bart Simpson comes to NIU

Bart Simpson is making his – or her – way to DeKalb.

Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart, will speak at 7 p.m. April 1 at the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.

“‘The Simpsons’ is one of the more popular television shows with college kids, especially on this campus,” said Tiffany Gonzales, coordinator of the CAB speakers committee.

She said the committee thought it would be of interest to students to bring in one of the people from the show.

Gonzales said the committee originally wanted to bring NIU alumnus Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer Simpson, to speak, but the deal fell through because Castellaneta didn’t want to talk about “The Simpsons.”

She said the committee wanted to bring in another popular personality from the show.

Cartwright’s presentation, “My Life as a 10-Year-Old Boy, ” will discuss her life, her book of the same name, how she got into the business and how her life has been affected by “The Simpsons,” Gonzales said.

CAB is expecting 500 to 800 people to attend and people already have called the CAB office to ask about the event, she said.

She said the six-member committee has been working throughout the semester to plan the event.

The event is SA allocated, free and open to all. For more information, call 753-1580.
