Fraternity holds 25th anniversary party

By Maria Tortorello

It’s springtime and what better way to celebrate than at an outdoor party.

The members of Phi Kappa Sigma will be hosting an anniversary party celebrating the fraternity’s 25 years on campus.

The party is from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at 1020 Hillcrest.

Entertainment for the celebration will be provided by three musically different bands.

The rhythm and blues band Howard and the White Boys will be performing from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The second band to make an appearance at the party is the reggae group Rude Beat League, which will be performing from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The final band of the day is Hairball Willie, which will be performing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Those attending the bash will be able to buy hot dogs, bratwursts and cokes, provided by PJ’s Red Hots, 817 W. Lincoln Highway.

To help raise money, T-shirts and mugs will be sold which promote Phi Kappa Sigma’s 25th anniversary.

The proceeds from the party will go to the fraternity’s major philanthropy, the Leukemia Society of DeKalb.

According to Derek Gilroy, Phi Kappa Sigma member, the fraternity is expecting about 1,000 people to attend the party.

The large attendance is expected because the party is open to the public.

“The majority of the crowd is coming from the Chicagoland area,” Gilroy said. “Over 100 alumni will be attending as well as several people from the DeKalb area and Greek Row.”

Gilroy also stated that the party is not meant to be greek associated. It is a chance to take advantage of the weather.

“It is not meant to be a fraternity party,” Gilroy said. “It is just a chance to have a good time and a celebration of summer.”

There will be a $4 cover charge and the party is only open to those 21 or older.
