Groups may be cut

The Student Association Finance Committee’s recommendation for the Campus Activities Board’s budget next year totaled $480,347 after finishing recommendations for individual committees at Wednesday’s meeting.

CAB requested more than $750,000 for fiscal year 2005.

Committee members voted to zero-fund two proposed committees, CAB Huskie Pride and Little Huskies.

The recommendation for CAB Speakers was kept at $45,910, the same figure the committee was allocated last year. Members voted to cut speakers’ request for funds to have events at the Convocation Center.

CAB Summer Programming requested nearly $20,000 more than it were allocated last year, but the committee recommended to allocate $20,971, a $500 increase from last year’s funding.

There was some disagreement over the budget for CAB Visual Arts/SA Art Collection. The committee requested $17,630 and was allocated $8,300 last year.

Rick Clark, director of University Programming & Activities, said having the art gallery in the Holmes Student Center has helped graduate students, who need a set number of shows to graduate.

The committee decided on $12,678 for its final recommendation for Visual Arts.
