Unity in Diversity holds theme contest

NIU’s Unity in Diversity Steering Committee is looking for a theme to promote diversity.

“The entire campus can enter – students, staff and faculty,” said Michelle Bringas, coordinator of the contest.

The theme contest has taken place since 1988. Last year’s theme was “Unity in Diversity. Explore. Create. Participate.”

Bringas said the winners receive recognition.

“There is a $100 prize. The winners are recognized at the Unity in Diversity award ceremony in April, and their name gets printed on perpetual plaques at the [Holmes] Student Center cafe. Plus, it gets used as the theme for the poster contest in March.”

Bringas already has received 13 theme submissions and expects a lot of last-minute entries, she said.

“We are anticipating a lot to be submitted. We had 76 submissions last year,” she said.

Submissions are due at 4:30 p.m. today at University Programming & Activities, located at the Campus Life Building, Suite 150.

The winning theme will be chosen by Feb. 27. A poster contest based around the theme will take place in March.
