Are you ready for some football?

Ah, the Super Bowl. The most-watched program of the year, televised at 5:25 p.m. Sunday on CBS, brings many people together and raises the question of what to do.

Many choose to stay home and view the big game. The Super Bowl is the top at-home party event of the year, surpassing even New Year’s Eve, according to the Hallmark Cards Press Room Web site However, options are available for fans who want to get out for a good time.

The Super Bowl doesn’t get much bigger than at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, 105 E. Main St. The theater projects the Super Bowl onto a screen 22 feet by 40 feet. Todd Smith, operator of the theater, said the picture is “crystal clear.”

“It’s the next best thing to being there,” Smith said.

The theater holds 900, and previous years has drawn crowds of several hundred. The cost is $4 at the door. Full concessions, including alcoholic beverages, are available. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

For people wanting a showing closer to home, the Residence Hall Association will host a free Super Bowl party at Stevenson Towers’ New Orleans Room.

The room features a 61-inch flat screen television. The doors open at 4:45 p.m. and snacks will be provided, said Christopher Strupp, acting programming vice president of RHA.

“We expect 25 to 50 people to come down, enjoy the game and watch the commercials,” Strupp said. “We’re just trying to have a little fun for the Super Bowl.”

Those looking for a good time at a bar should have no problem finding one broadcasting the game. Many bars area will have drink and food specials for the event.

Starbusters Bar and Grill, 930 Pappas Drive, will show the game and offer specials, including 30-cent wings and giveaways in honor of the occasion. Mike Moore, assistant manager at Starbusters, said he believed all bars do better in terms of sales during the Super Bowl.

Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, will have drink and food specials that include $5.99 all-you-can-eat pizza. Molly’s boasts four big-screen plasma televisions to watch the game.
