NAACP to serve holiday dinner for poor families

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host a Thanksgiving Dinner today for underprivileged families.

Tia Speat, coordinator for the dinner and vice president of NAACP, said the organization decided to host the dinner because of its mission.

“NAACP is a positive organization and will continue to have events like this throughout the year,” she said.

The dinner will be held at the Grant South Lounge from 4 to 9 p.m. today. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

Speat said the event is open to everyone. If students, faculty or administrators come to the dinner, they will be asked to make a donation, Speat said.

The NAACP is still seeking volunteers to help with the dinner. She said the organization will verify community service hours.

Speat said students should come to the event because it will be a chance for them to reflect with each other.

“This dinner will be a chance to give thanks and socialize with other students,” she said, “and also to eat and have a good time.”

Speat said there will be turkey, several different types of cake, greens and other vegetables served at the dinner.
