PSA presents Rice Bowl

The Rice Bowl will serve up a football tournament this weekend thanks to the Philippine Student Association.

Kevin Abarra, vice president of activities for the PSA, said other schools will participate in the 16th annual tournament, including DePaul University, Loyola University, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and the University of Illinois-Chicago.

The tournament will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Schiller Woods in Schiller Park, Ill.

Abarra said there will be a men’s division and a women’s division. He said it is too late for students to participate in the game, but they are more than welcome to attend.

Abarra said NIU’s men’s team won in 2001. The winning team will receive a trophy and a traveling cup, Abarra said.

Abarra said students should come out support the team and utilize their school spirit.

“It’s a great way to see what the Philippine culture is all about,” Abarra said, “and support your very own NIU students.”

Abarra said he wanted to thank those involved in planning the event, including the players and coaches.
