Quiznos to move in

By Laura Grandt

DeKalb’s sandwich industry soon will have a new addition when Quiznos Sub opens a new location in the coming months.

The new location will open in the Lincoln Center on the corner of Annie Glidden Road and Lincoln Highway, said Maureen Bassett, general manager of the Sycamore, Dixon, Rochelle and DeKalb Quiznos Sub restaurants.

She said the DeKalb store will be located in the space formerly occupied by The Coffee Gourmet and Delicatessen.

There currently are Quiznos locations in Sycamore, 1969 DeKalb Ave, and in Dixon, 224 W. River St. A location in Rochelle is slated to open in the next couple of weeks, Bassett said.

After the Rochelle store opens, attention will turn to the DeKalb location. Bassett said the goal is to open the DeKalb store by late May, but that date is an estimate.

Russell Farnum, principle planner for the DeKalb Community Development Department, was unaware of the plans to open the sandwich shop, but said he would welcome the new store. He said if a Quiznos were to open, the department would help accommodate the store during the planning and permit process.

Bassett said the need for a DeKalb location stems from the popularity of the Sycamore store. She said there was a desire to branch out into a more student-populated community.

“Everybody was really asking for it,” she said of the new store, adding the Sycamore location has been very popular.

Although she has already accepted applications for employment for the DeKalb restaurant, Bassett said she is not accepting anymore for the time being because of the uncertainty of an official opening date.

“I don’t want to hire too far in advance,” she said.

Applications will be accepted as the opening approaches, probably sometime in May, she said.

Anyone interested at that time should go to the Sycamore store and request an application for the DeKalb restaurant.
