Assistant assumes position

DeKalb’s Finance Director Steve Healy resigned from his office this month to pursue other career opportunities.

In the wake of this event, Assistant Finance Director Ted Kozinski has been appointed acting finance director, effective March 10.

DeKalb City Manager Bill Nicklas is giving Kozinski the opportunity to get acquainted with the job.

“As assistant, he (Kozinski) was fully aware of the

responsibilities for the office of finance director. This is a chance for him to put his best efforts forward,” Nicklas said.

In his new position Kozinski will be put in charge of the city treasurer, the accounting department, payroll and the yearly audit.

The office also requires professional administrations, through state and federal requirements, to report all transactions.

The office is concentrating a lot of work on the city budget, through forecasting future expenses, gathering information and working with the finance staff. Other projects include conducting financial analysis, overseeing purchasing activities and working with investments.

Through financial data base software the finance office supervises and trains employees to get information more easily.

Other areas headed by the finance office are processing checks through the cash manager, checking city assets and overseeing investment funds and special projects performed for the city manager.

Kozinski said he is interested in becoming the full-time finance director.

“I’m interested in the position of finance director, but I understand that it is the decision of the city manager. Hopefully during this trial run I can show that I can do the job,” Kozinski said.
