Fighting cancer with wicked solos

By LaShaunna Watkins

The American Cancer Society will hold a battle of the bands in an attempt to help fight cancer at 7 p.m. tonight at the Holmes Student Center’s Diversions Lounge.

Tim Samp, entertainment chair of the ACS, said the proceeds will go Relay for Life, which will be held at 6 p.m. on April 4 at the Student Recreation Center.

According to Samp, the bands were put into categories such as punk, pop and rock. The battle of the bands will consist of Where’s Jimmy K At, Uphill Ski Team, PrAnK, JoE’s MoM and Tpiptyk. Each band will be given 15 minutes to play. The winner will receive the opportunity to play a full set at the Relay for Life event.

If students are not interested in attending the concert, they still can donate money at the Relay for Life event. Students will be able to witness music in addition to supporting the efforts to cure cancer.

“This a great chance for NIU students to give back to the community because the money goes directly back to the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer,” Samp said.
