After investigation by DeKalb police and fire departments, arson has been found to be the cause of the fire that occurred late Sunday afternoon on Ridge Drive, resulting in $60,000 worth of damage.

According to a DeKalb Police Department press release, Tyrone B. Harris, 24, the occupant in the apartment that was on fire, was arrested on charges of arson and residential arson, a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by four to 15 years in prison and a fine of $25,000. The charge of arson is a Class 2 Felony, also punishable by a fine of $25,000 and three to seven years in prison.

No injuries reportedly occurred Sunday, and the damage was contained in Harris’ apartment.

Investigators suspected arson right away based on the evidence that was found, said DeKalb Fire Department Director Lanny Russell.

A motive for the suspected arson has not yet been determined.

The police and fire department collaborated on the investigation soon after the fire.

The DeKalb Police Department arrived at the scene on Sunday afternoon after receiving an emergency call.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes. Occupants were allowed back into their homes Sunday night.

Harris is being held at the DeKalb County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
