Intoxicated pilot lands plane in field

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department responded to a cell phone report of a plane down near Route 38 and Pritchard Road on Wednesday afternoon, and the pilot was arrested shortly thereafter for flying intoxicated.

The airplane and its two passengers, pilot Edward T. Marcoski, 48, of Downers Grove and Ann Konhilas, 53, of Darien were located by Cortland Police.

Marcoski told police that the Grumman American Model AA1, a single-engine aircraft, lost power for some unknown reason, and he attempted to land safely in a field west of Pritchard Road.

Neither Marcoski or Konhilas were significantly injured and refused medical transport.

DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the plane was en route from Aurora when it supposedly ran out of fuel in one of the two gas tanks, and Marcoski failed to properly throw a switch.

After an investigation, Marcoski was found to have a blood alcohol content exceeding .04 and was arrested for operating an aircraft while intoxicated.

He was transported to DeKalb County Jail where he was booked and released on an I-bond.
