Christmas sale to benefit alvation Army in DeKalb

The Residence Hall Association is sponsoring a Christmas charity sale on Dec. 4, with donated items to help raise money for the Salvation Army in DeKalb.

The sale will be held in the Capitol Room in the Holmes Student Center. Items from books and clothing to furniture and carpeting will be collected and sold.

“This is the first time we’ve tried this,” said Richard Flacks, vice president of programming for the RHA. “We just want to get as much participation as possible.

“We were thinking about having an event like this at the end of the year, but we thought, ‘Why not have one at the end of the semester?'” Flacks said.

The end of the semester also is a good time for students to get rid of things they don’t need, he said.

Flacks said students may call the RHA office at 753-1078 if they have items they are interested in donating. Someone will tell them where to drop the items off, he said.

All proceeds from the Christmas sale will go to the Salvation Army in DeKalb, Flacks said. Leftover items will be donated to the Salvation Army Red Shield Thrift Store.

Flacks said the RHA has a number of volunteers to work at the event, but if someone is interested in volunteering they may contact the RHA office.
