Graduating students offered headstart from NIU’s job fair

Students graduating in December or May of this school year will be offered a headstart in the job world at NIU’s annual job fair.

NIU’s Career Planning and Placement Office is sponsoring Job Fair Fall 1992 Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Ballroom.

Representatives from 90 different companies will be available for students to talk to.

Along with offering information, employers will be handing out resumes to students and interviewing for present job openings in their firms.

“It’s a job fair, rather than a career day,” said placement counselor Ellen Anderson. “It offers students one last chance to get a job before they graduate.”

The ratio of employers to students is relatively small compared to DePaul University’s job fair, Anderson said.

“Our students have a pretty good shot (at the jobs),” she said.

The fair is open to students of all majors.

Representatives from Dean Witter Financial Services Group, Enesco, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Woodmen Accident and Life Company and several other types of businesses will be attending the fair.

“There is a diverse range of employers coming,” Anderson said.

NIU’s job fair has been very successful in the past, attracting approximately 1,200 students, Anderson said.

“Considering 90 companies are coming shows that we’ve been pretty successful (with the job fair) in the past,” she said.

The job fair is held twice a year at the end of each semester.
