In my four years here at Northern I had only read about the racial intolerance that is present on this campus. I had been fortunate enough not to have experienced any racial confrontations until now. I was jogging on campus and a car of four white males pulled up next to me and yelled, “Get inside nigger.” I was furious by their obvious racism and biased attitudes. Can’t a person even jog on the same block as a white person? What makes this story even more of a call for racial equality and understanding on this campus, and the nation as a whole, is the fact that I am a WHITE student. If this does not demonstrate a lack of vision by prejudiced people it definitely shows that racism blind.
