New activities, changes liven up weekend

Deadlines for team events have come and gone, but students still can participate in Homecoming Weekend.

Homecoming Coordinator Russ Swain said, “Team entries were due last week. Right now we just want people to show up and help.”

One of the new events planned for this year is the comedy game show “You Laugh You Lose” on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Sandburg Auditorium.

“Contestants can win money and just have a good time,” he said.

Another big difference this year is the day of the parade, Swain said. Instead of the traditional Saturday morning parade, it will be on Friday night at 5:15 through downtown DeKalb past the East Lagoon.

Swain attributed the change to the desire for more student participation.

Something else new to this year’s parade will be the food fest following at the East Lagoon. There will be food from different places around town and a DJ will be spinning the tunes.

“Jerry’s Ribs, Sgt. Peppers, Nick’s and other restaurants from around the area will have food there,” Swain said.

At the traditional Homecoming dance, rather than a DJ play, there will be a Chicago-based band called the Bad Examples.
