Annual Kite Fest will take place Sunday

DeKALB The DeKalb Park District’s annual kite fest will be at 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kiwanis Park, Fairview Drive and S. Fourth St. 

The event will be free and friendly for all ages. Participants must pre-register and choose a Kite Fest time slot, according to DeKalb Park District website. The event will be split up into two intervals: one at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other at 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Each interval will split participants into two groups A and B. Group A will fly the first hour and participate in activities the second hour. Group B will do activities first, then fly kites, according to the Park District website. 

Participants can bring their own kite or buy one at the event.

Activities will be held in the park shelter and main parking lot. Kite flying will be held on the west side of the park, west of the gravel road, according to the Park District website. 

Those attending can reserve a parking spot at the Sports and Recreation Center prior to the event for free. 

Professional kite flyers will make an appearance, like Al Sparling, Darryl Waters, Anthony Catalano, Team Sky FX, and Team Chicago Kite, according to the Park District website. 

Cream King ice cream truck and Big D’s Hotdogs will also be on-site selling concessions.
