Shooting cases under investigation

By R. Scott Lohman

Investigation of this weekend’s two shooting cases is continuing by DeKalb Police.

In the Sunday incident at College Square Apartments, 835 Edgebrook Drive, Apt. 109, Jerome J. Allen, 23, of Chicago, was treated and released from Kishwaukee Community Hospital as the result of a gunshot wound. Allen is not an NIU student, said DeKalb Police Lt. Chuck Kross.

No arrests have been made yet, but Kross said they have a suspect in that case and they expect to make an arrest soon.

DeKalb Police Lt. Richard Moudy said it appears the suspect is not a DeKalb resident. No further information of the suspect was given.

Kross said as many as three shots were fired from a handgun, but the exact number is not known at this time.

The shooting occurred when an argument ensued between guests at a party in the College Square Apartment. Moudy said it appears all the guests had been invited and that some were from DeKalb and others from out-of-town.

Two men were arrested and released on $100 bond in the weekend’s second shooting case. Kenneth E. Ward, 24, of Maywood and Miguel D. Pilgram, 23, of Memphis, Tenn., were arrested Friday at DeKalb Plaza Apartments, Building B, 1325 W. Lincoln Hwy., and charged with unlawful use of weapons, police said.

Kross said that the number of shots fired has not been determined and it is uncertain how many guns were fired.

In this second case, police said a fight occurred in which several handguns were displayed by both sides in the dispute.

The altercation happened in the east parking lot of the apartment complex. DeKalb Police Chief Don Berke said no one was injured as a result of gunfire. Marcus S. Luckett, 23, of Maywood, was treated and released from KCH for injuries sustained in a battery at the apartment.

Berke and Kross said it has not been determined if either of the disturbances was gang related.
