New system availble to help find scholarships

he Student Association has embarked on a journey to aid students in their scholarship search. College Aid Sources for Higher Education or better known as CASHE has come to the Student Association office.

CASHE is a computerized scholarship search service that produces a list of scholarships a certain student is eligible to apply for. The system takes the information the student provides, processes it and then searches for the scholarship he/she may be eligible to apply for.

The information that is put into the system is provided by the applications students fill out. This application consists of things ranging from work experience, sports and organizations the student has participated in, to activities their parents may have been involved in. These activities are listed in the code book attached to the application. These codes represent the actual information that is entered into the system for the search process. However, if a student has particitpated in an activity and there is no code for it, then there is no scholarship in the data base for that activity.

Once the search process has been complete, the computer prints out the list of scholarships for which the student is eligible to apply. This list consists of the names and the places where to write to get the application.

The system will be up for use very soon. The Student Association has been waiting to run the system until the new updated disks with the current codes and scholarship information arrive.

The system will be open to all students for the the small fee of $1.00. This system is comparable to other systems advertised for prices ranging from $40.00—$100.00. This is payable when the application is picked up. The fee will only be accepted in the form of a check, made out to Northern Illinois University, and then the student will receive a receipt. Approximately 2_2 1/2 weeks later the student must bring their receipt and student ID to pick up an application.
