DeKalb – A winter storm is on the way for the DeKalb area, with heavy snow expected by late Monday afternoon.

A winter storm warning issued for northern Illinois from the National Weather Service is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday. Weather forecasters are predicting between 4 to 8 inches of snow, along with 35 mph winds.

All face-to-face classes after 4 p.m. Monday have been moved online due to the incoming snowstorm, according to a Monday NIU announcement.

The change applies to classes for NIU’s main campus and its satellite locations in Naperville, Rockford and at the Lorado Taft Field campus. Instructors will reach out to students with details regarding the move to online classes.

Online classes will proceed as scheduled.

Travel tonight could be difficult as hazardous conditions are likely to impact at least a portion of the commute this evening, as well as on Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
