National Weather Service warns Illinois residents of icy driving conditions

By Northern Star Staff

DeKALB – The National Weather Service is advising northern Illinois residents to take caution when driving on the roads due to hazardous weather

A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for the area until noon for slippery road conditions and blowing snow.

For the remainder of the day, blustery west winds will persist, producing areas of blowing snow, especially in open and rural areas. Hazardous travel conditions will also likely continue through this morning, due to snow-covered roads where blowing and drifting is most prevalent.

In addition, much colder temperatures will have caused lingering moisture on roads to freeze.

The Illinois Tollway has also placed Zero Weather Road Patrols to respond 24/7 to quickly assist stranded drivers on the interstate.

This weekend will also see wind chill values as low as -16 on Saturday and a high near 4 degrees on Sunday.
