Purse stealer caught

A recent rash of campus purse thefts has ended following an arrest by the University Police last week.

Delores A. Davis, also known as Christine Davis, 33, whose listed address is 211 Lucas St., Sycamore, was arrested by the UPs Thursday in Adams Hall. The staff in Adams helped in Davis’ arrest.

Davis was charged with felony theft and receiving lost or mislaid credit cards, said UP Lt. Kathy Guimond. Davis was held at DeKalb County Jail and a bond hearing at the DeKalb County Courthouse took place Friday, Guimond said. Davis also faced a charge of battery under her alias.

“Davis was arrested after police received numerous complaints and started an investigation into reports of purse thefts which occurred in several campus buildings during the past few weeks,” Guimond said.

Most of the thefts took place in administrative offices where office workers would normally place their purses in the unlocked drawers of their desks, Guimond said.

She advised that anyone who sees suspicious persons should contact the UPs at 911 as soon as possible.

The police remind everyone to secure their valuables at all times and report thefts as soon as they are noticed so it makes it easier to develop suspects, Guimond said.

“Purses and wallets left unattended, even for a few seconds, create many opportunities for a thief,” said Guimond.
