DeKALB — NIU announced guidelines Wednesday to resume in-person indoor and outdoor events, effective immediately. All information is from a Wednesday NIU email.

Indoor events are limited to a maximum of 50 guests or 50% capacity, whichever is less. Outdoor events are allowed to have multiple groups of 50 guests as long as those groups are at least 30 feet apart. Physical distancing guidelines and face mask requirements are required in both instances.

Attendance must be taken at events in order to aid in contact tracing should issues arise. Shared objects “should be limited and thoroughly cleaned between uses” and there’s no food or beverages allowed at events.

NIU emphasized “parties and unregistered events of any size are strictly prohibited as they remain very high-risk activities that jeopardize the health and well-being of our community.”

The released statement finishes by encouraging students to continue attending online events.

“All Huskies are encouraged to continue to participate in online events and make responsible decisions regarding hosting and participating in events that take place in person,” the statement reads. “Please continue to adhere to the expectations outlined in Protecting the Pack.”

NIU, as of Thursday afternoon, was at 1.2% quarantine and isolation use, according to the NIU COVID-19 Dashboard. Two new students tested positive while one recovered.
