WNIJ 89.5 celebrating 30 years of broadcasting

DeKALB – WNIJ 89.5 FM is celebrating 30 years of public broadcasting this April. WNIJ began broadcasting on April 28, 1991.

For the month of April, the station is hosting “30 Reasons to love WNIJ.” Students can download the WNIJ app, or listen to the livestream radio broadcast at wnij.org. The station is hosting several radio features this month. “All things Considered” and “Morning Edition” are broadcasted daily. Tune in to learn more about WNIJ history, listen to former WNIJ employees who covered important historical events, learn more about career opportunities as former employees will be interviewed, and discuss how they started their careers in on air broadcasting with WNIJ, according to the NIU event page. 

The WNIJ’s mission statement, per their website, is for Northern Public Radio to enrich, inspire and inform adults in northern Illinois through programs and services that share ideas, encourage thought, give pleasure and create community.
