DeKALB — NIU has canceled two Johnson & Johnson/ Janssen COVID-19 vaccination clinics scheduled for April 17 and 20, according to a Tuesday email sent to students.

The announcements come on the heels of the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration pausing the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines after six reported cases of severe blood clots from patients who received the vaccine.

The university made the decision to cancel the clinics out of an abundance of caution, according to the email sent to students. The DeKalb County Health Department has contacted students who had registered for appointments to receive the vaccine.
