DeKALB — Eugene German, NIU’s all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball, has signed on to join the Denver Nuggets for the NBA Summer League.

German posted the news to Twitter on Friday morning, adding he was “excited and beyond blessed.” German played for NIU from 2016 to 2020, scoring a program record 2,203 points.

German made his professional debut in March, joining the Kokomo Bobcats of The Basketball League. In 12 games, the Gary, Ind. native averaged 27.6 points per game.

In April, German helped #B1GMaction to win the 3X3U National Championship and was named the tournament MVP. German and his teammates got to split a prize pool of $70,000.

The NBA Summer League will take place from Aug. 8-17 in Las Vegas, giving younger players a chance to gain experience and make an impression on executives before preseason camps.

The Nuggets opening contest of the Summer League will be 9 p.m. CST Aug. 8 against the Miami Heat. The game will be televised on NBA TV.
