DeKALB ― A 21-year-old man from Aurora is dead following a shooting in the Lincoln Towers apartment complex parking lot, 110 W. Lincoln Highway, late Thursday night, DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd said.

The Aurora man pulled into the Lincoln Towers parking lot with friends when two males exited the car and approached Princeston Mack, of DeKalb, according to the DeKalb Police Department. The man threatened and tried to rob Mack at gunpoint when Mack allegedly shot the Aurora man.

Officers found the Aurora man in a vehicle that crashed into a concrete retaining wall and performed life saving measures until he was transported to Northwestern Kishwaukee Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Mack was arrested on Friday morning and is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and charges remain pending.
