Tornado warning issued for northwestern DeKalb County

DeKALB — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning at 4:30 p.m. Monday until 7 p.m. for northwestern DeKalb County.

At 5:43 p.m., a tornado was spotted on the ground 10 miles northwest of DeKalb moving east at 25 mph.

At 6:17 p.m. a confirmed tornado was located near Sycamore, moving east at 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service advised residents to take cover now in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Flying debris will be dangerous to those without shelter.

The NIU Department of Geographic and Atmospheric Sciences hosts a live video of campus and northern Illinois located at the top of the Holmes Student Center for students and residents to view live weather.
