NIU sororities will be tugging for the Ben Gordon Sexual Assault Center Saturday during Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity’s annual tug of war.

Todd Kuska, Pi Kappa Alpha philanthropy chairman, said NIU sororities will compete against each other during a Ladies Tug of War.

Each sorority must pay $50 to compete and all funds go to the Ben Gordon Sexual Assault Center.

The following nine sororities will be competing in the event: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Gamma, Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Zeta, Sigma Kappa, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Phi.

“Also, 22 guys from Pi Kappa Alpha will be coaching the nine sororities,” Kuska said.

For the past two years, Delta Zetas have tugged the hardest to take home the championship, he said.

The event will be open to the public. A beer garden will be open for those who are 21 and over. The beer garden will cost $5 to drink and watch the event. Non-drinkers must pay $1 to watch the event, Kuska said.

Concessions with hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst and Italian sausage also will be available, he said.

Tugs will begin at 9 a.m., with tugs running 45 minutes apart from each other. The championship for first and second place will begin at 2:30 p.m. The third place round kicks off at 3 p.m.
