Huskies announce captains for season

Three NIU seniors—offensive tackle Brad Capes, nose guard Rob Wagner and flanker Larry Wynn—were voted by their teammates as the Huskies’ 1992 tri-captains, football coach Charlie Sadler announced.

“These are our captains as selected by their teammates,” Sadler said. “As a coaching staff, we couldn’t have done a better job of picking our captains. These three young men are excellent leaders on and off the football field.

“They will get the physical part of football done on the field and the leadership part done, too. We are counting on their leadership as seniors.”

Capes starts his final campaign as an NCAA Division I-A Academic All-America candidate after making CoSIDA First-Team District Five All-Academic the last two seasons.

Wagner, a pre-season Second Team All-Independent candidate in the Sporting News, could be pro material at 6-4 and 270 pounds, three varsity letters and a string of 22 consecutive starts.

Wynn earned “Almost” All-America honors last fall from the Football News. The 6-foot, 180-pounder led NIU in receiving (21 catches for 415 yards and one touchdown), punt returns (nine for 32 yards) and kickoff returns (15 for 328 yards). He also finished with 784 all-purpose yards last year.

The Capes-Wagner-Wynn triumvirate marks the third straight season the Huskies have featured tri-captains.
