DeKALB – The Tails Humane Society’s pet of the week for Sept. 14 is a 1-year-old tortoiseshell cat named Sassafras.

Sassafras is a sweet cat who is shy at first but warms up to you after receiving pets and treats. She is great with older children, teenagers and adults and loves a relaxed and serene environment at home, according to the Tails website.

Sassafras prefers to be the only feline at home because she wants all your attention, but she is willing to share that attention with any cat-friendly dogs you have.

You will probably find her taking a nap in the sun on top of one of the cat trees at the shelter.

If interested in adopting, Tails Humane Society, 2250 Barber Greene Road, is open for walk-ins from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5:30 p.m. on weekends.
