Kristen Vandenhouten did the honors in game one and Kim Compton went the distance in game two as the NIU softball team (22-19-1) chalked up not one, but two shutouts in a North Star Conference doubleheader sweep of Valparaiso Friday.

Saturday’s doubleheader at Wright State was rained out.

Vandenhouten yielded a single hit in three separate innings while pitching the Huskies to a 2-0 victory in the opening game. She boosted her own record to 9-5. Compton, who improved to 8-7, also shut down the Crusaders as NIU prevailed by a 3-0 count to record the 11th and 12th shutouts of the season.
