DeKALB — Junior defenseman Anthony Markanich and junior forward Nick Markanich, the brothers from Bourbonnais, Illinois, are among the 44 college players invited to participate in this year’s Adidas Major League Soccer College Showcase.

NIU Athletics announced Tuesday that the brothers will participate in a three-day training camp from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12 in Cary, North Carolina, the location of the NCAA men’s soccer championship final.

The Markanich brothers will participate in training sessions, interviews and match play with MLS scouts and coaches. Eleven players who participated in the 2019 MLS College Showcase are now on MLS rosters.

Nick Markanich won Mid-American Conference Player of the Year with a nation-leading 16 goals. Anthony Markanich had eight assists and 19 total points. Both earned First Team All-MAC honors as the Huskies secured both the regular season and tournament MAC championships.
