After another disappointing season for the Chicago Bears under head coach Matt Nagy, it’s time to look ahead at the best options to replace him as head coach.
Harbaugh is the head coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines, as well as former San Francisco 49ers head coach and Chicago Bears quarterback. Harbaugh is seen as one of the best options for the Bears’ head coach opening. His past with the Chicago Bears, along with his past coaching success at the NFL level, are the biggest reasons the Chicago Bears should hire Harbaugh for the job.
Harbaugh has an NFL coaching record of 44-19-1. He led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2013 and multiple conference championship games. It’s a match on both sides and the chemistry would be there instantly because Harbaugh knows the standards the Chicago Bears are held to.
The best option for this upcoming head coach search is Kellen Moore, offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Moore is a great young offensive mind who has been in the mix for coach hirings in the NFL the past few years. The Cowboys have been one of the highest scoring offenses with Moore calling the plays, including this year ranked second and first in 2019.
The last time the Bears went this route, they ended with Nagy, but the situation is different this time around. Kellen Moore has been calling the offensive plays for Dallas his entire tenure. On the contrary, Nagy’s previous gig as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs saw him take a back seat in playcalling to head coach Andy Reid for most of his tenure. This alone gives more reason to believe in Moore being able to take the Bears offense to the level that Nagy couldn’t.
The Bears have been trying to find the coach that can turn their offense into one of the top rated in the league, and Moore should be their top choice.
Leftwich is the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been calling plays for the Bucs the last two years, which includes last year when they won Super Bowl 55. The Bucs have been one of the top-ranked offenses since Leftwich has started calling the plays.
Some might say him having the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, and plenty of offensive weapons are the biggest reasons for the Bucs’ success. While that may be true, Leftwich knows what it takes to take an offense to the next level.
He also knows how to adjust when he needs to in order to keep defenses guessing, which was one of the major flaws with Nagy. In order to continue to see success out of an offense and win tough games, coaches have to adapt on the fly. Leftwich’s offensive mind brings that to the table.
