Men’s tennis drops matchup at Western Michigan University

DeKALB — The NIU men’s tennis teams fell to the Western Michigan University Broncos 7-0 on Saturday.

What Happened?

The Huskies were unable to get anything going against the Broncos in both doubles and singles matches.

Doubles: 1-0 WMU

Western Michigan took both doubles matches on the day as WMU senior Fynn Lohse and junior Arjun Honnappa beat NIU junior Mikko Malinen and sophomore Mikael Vollbach 6-3. WMU sophomores Benjamin George and Brogan Pierce defeated NIU freshman Christopher Knutson and sophomore Luke VanDonslear 6-3.

Singles: 6-0 WMU

Singles matches were much the same as the Broncos had their way with the Huskies. 

WMU freshman Anton Arzhankin defeated Redshirt senior Kristopher Ortega 6-1 and 6-2. WMU senior Peter Kuszynski  beat junior Oliver Valentinsson 7-6 (8-6) and 6-2. Lohse defeated Malinen 6-1, 3-6 and 11-9. George beat Mikael Vollbach 6-2 and 6-3. Honnappa defeated VanDonslear 6-0 and 6-2. Pierce beat Knutson 6-1 and 6-1.

What’s Next?

The Huskies will be back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. as they welcome Binghamton University to Dekalb.
