The gasoline prices in Illinois have changed drastically in the past ten years.

DeKALB – The average gasoline prices in Illinois have fallen 2.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.48 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy.

The cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $3.79 per gallon Sunday. The most expensive was $5.49 per gallon, marking a difference of $1.70 per gallon. 

The gasoline prices in Illinois have changed drastically in the past ten years. The prices of gasoline on March 28 went from $4.26 per gallon in 2012, $2.07 per gallon in 2016 to its current price of $2.98 per gallon. 

“The decline we’ve seen in average gas prices has been slowing down, as oil prices have held above $100 after declining under that level as recently as a few weeks ago,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.  “For the near future, we’ll see a mix of slight decreases and some potential increases mixed in.”

The national average price of gasoline is unchanged in the last week, averaging $4.23 per gallon Monday. The national average is up 62.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.38 per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data.
