NIU marketing week begins

By Carol Ekstrom

Today begins the week-long activities of marketing week at NIU.

Scott Model, a member of the American Marketing Association, said he believes marketing week will be a benefit for all who participate.

“I’m looking forward to our key-note speaker (Don Urbainec) and the panel discussion to provide useful information we can use when we graduate,” said Model, a senior marketing major.

Other events include a luncheon today in the marketing conference room at Wirtz Hall at noon. The guest speakers will be NIU President John La Tourette and DeKalb Mayor Greg Sparrow.

There will be a guest speaker from Ideal Industries in DeKalb Tuesday at 9 p.m. in the Wirtz Hall Auditorium. Urbainec will speak on exploring career opportunities in industrial marketing.

A panel discussion will be held Wednesday at 9 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Room 505. The topic will be international business and marketing.

The activities conclude at Thursday 9 p.m. with a bowl-a-thon at the Huskie Den in the student center.

For the second year, the AMA will sponsor this event to benefit Meals-On-Wheels, a program of the Voluntary Action Center in DeKalb that provides meals to the elderly and disabled in the DeKalb area.

Tom Zucker, VAC executive director, said he is pleased to receive support from the AMA.

“We rely on local support to keep our voluntary services running,” he said. “We are pleased that they are interested in supporting us.”

Last year the AMA raised more than $300 for VAC.
