DeKALB — Glidden Homestead is looking for volunteers in the DeKalb community to give tours of the museum.

The Glidden Homestead and Historical Center, 921 W. Lincoln Highway, asks anyone who is interested in being a volunteer docent (tour guide) at the museum to attend an informational meeting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 17. This session will be led by docent Chris Thompson, who will go over museum’s history as well as what to expect as a docent. The session will take roughly two hours.

Docents take visitors and help guide them through the museum and discuss the history of barbed wire in DeKalb, the Glidden family and the homestead’s place in local and national history. The homestead and the barn are both on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum will be open to the public every Sunday from June to November from noon to 4 p.m.

A reservation for the session is not required but is welcomed, and one can be made by calling 815-756-7904 or emailing [email protected].
