A 17-year-old male was arrested on Aug. 26 after an altercation that occurred on Aug. 23. The perpetrator was identified as a juvenile offender.

The DeKalb Police Department responded to a shooting that involved a female victim who was shot twice. She was transported to the Northwestern Kishwaukee Community Hospital, and she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was with another female at 832 Ridge drive when a male took a bonnet off of her head. The two women began to argue with the male which resulted in him pulling out a gun and shooting about four times at them.

The officers did try to approach and make contact with the juvenile offender, but would not obey commands by the police officer and instead jumped the fence of the parking lot.

The juvenile offender was then searched and was found to own a loaded handgun and an extended magazine with twenty rounds of ammunition. He also had a home monitoring ankle bracelet that was made into a makeshift holster for the loaded handgun. The handgun that he had on him was not the same gun used for the shooting on Aug. 23.

According to the DeKalb Police Department, the 17-year-old was charged with the following:

  1. Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
  2. Aggravated Battery with a Firearm
  3. Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  4. FTA Warrant – Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
  5. Armed Violence
  6. Possession of a Firearm without a FOID
  7. Two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Firearm
  8.  Aggravated Resisting Arrest
  9.  Possession of Ammunition without a FOID

The juvenile offender is now incarcerated at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
