Editor’s Note: This training session has reached capacity, according to Sandy Lopez, the director of Undocumented Student Support. Lopez said another training will be held in the spring.

The Office of Undocumented Student Support will host training on how to be an undocumented ally from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday in the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room.

This ally training will help attendees gain experience with advocating for and providing support for undocumented students.

Allies will learn about laws, policies and legislation that affects undocumented students on the State and Federal level, according to the NIU Events Calendar

Participating individuals will also learn about the different challenges and barriers faced by the undocumented students. These challenges include socioeconomic concerns, barriers to education and psychological concerns.

The training will provide beneficial resources for students both on and off campus. Students on campus can come into the office and learn more about their programs as well as apply directly in the office. For off-campus students, they can contact the office through Microsoft Teams and their student email account.
