DeKALB — Senior infielder Sam Schmidt was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Tuesday.
Schmidt batted .563 during the Huskies 4-1 week that included wins over Central Michigan and Loyola Chicago.
She picked up nine hits, including six for extra bases, while driving in nine runs to lead her team.
Schmidt is the third Huskie this year to earn the MAC's weekly honor. Alex Frenz earned the MAC co-Pitcher of the Week award following her performance in the Husky Classic, while Katie Keller earned MAC Player of the Week honor during NIU’s spring break contests.
Schmidt is hitting .272 on the year while knocking in a team-high 26 RBIs. She has allowed smacked five home runs on the season.
Schmidt will look to defend her Player of the Week title after the Huskies’ 10-day break from competition.
The Huskies will next take the field 3 p.m. April 30 in DeKalb when NIU opens up a doubleheader against Valparaiso University.
